Georgia's economy has been described as having two distinct areas: a vibrant metropolitan Atlanta area and the other rural communities throughout the state. Today, this two Georgias distinction also applies to the growing disparities in health and healthcare between our state's metropolitan areas and rural communities.

The conditions in which people live, work, and play are powerful determinants of their health and wellbeing. Poverty, unemployment, education, transportation, and changing family and community demographics are among the challenges that impact rural Georgians' access to quality healthcare.

In October 2016, Healthcare Georgia Foundation introduced this new funding opportunity to attendees at five community forums in Georgia.
