Session Description:
The goal of this training is to familiarize Medical Reserve Corps Members with the purpose of the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) and how SNS assets are requested, received and dispensed. The training will provide an overview of background concepts relevant to mass dispensing, and describe dispensing site operations and potential staffing roles for MRC members.

Session Objectives:
Session participants will be able to:

  1. Describe situations under which the SNS (Strategic National Stockpile) is requested/deployed.
  2. Explain the Cities Readiness Initiative as it relates to mass dispensing.
  3. Discuss several types and models of Points of Dispensing (PODs).
  4. Describe the various stations within a POD.
  5. Identify potential roles for volunteers in POD operations.

Technology Requirements:
Participants registering for programs should have access to the following technology for best viewing and participation:

  • Personal computer with Macintosh or Windows with 512 MB of RAM
  • Broadband internet connection such as an office LAN, DSL, or cable modem
  • Phone next to personal computer (or speaker phone if multiple people are viewing)
  • Computer speakers (built-in or attached)
  • Latest version of Adobe Flash which can be downloaded for free at
