Session Description:
Dr. Amy House provides statistical information regarding intimate partner violence (IPV) across the US and in the state of Georgia. She discusses how IPV manifests in the forms of physical, sexual & psychological abuse. Dr. House details the following related to IPV victimization: risk factors, signs & symptoms, mental health, and general health indicators. She defines and encourages the physician’s role and guiding principles in IPV using a RADAR format.

- Explain what intimate partner violence (IPV) is and common behavioral patterns of IPV.
- Identify patients who are victims of IPV.
- Intervene appropriately with victims of IPV.

About Amy S. House, PhD
Dr. Amy House is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Health Behavior from the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Health Sciences University. She also serves as the Director of a Psychology of Women Training Program, a Sexual Trauma Survivors Program, and a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Program.
Dr. House graduated from University of Georgia. She completed her psychology internship from the Medical College of Georgia and Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Family Psychology at the Medical College of Georgia. She is a Georgia licensed psychologist.
