Session Description:
Physicians and psychologists estimate that as many as 30% of children may have a sleep disorder at some point during childhood. Sleep disorders have implications both for social-emotional adjustment and for school performance. Dr. Gary Freed will provide a brief history of sleep disorders, discuss the kinds of sleep disturbances that may affect children and adolescents, and provide a description of recommended treatments.
Session Objectives:
- Explain the history and general background of the field of Sleep Medicine
- Describe an easy screening tool for providers to use to screen for sleep disorders
- Discuss the major "non-respiratory" sleep disorders in sleep medicine
