Alzheimer’s Disease Updates (CURE Activity)
SOWEGA-AHEC, in partnership with Tift Regional Medical Center and the UGA College of Pharmacy, has developed CE/CME/ACPE opportunities for healthcare professionals. CURE Activities are presented by experienced practitioners who share cutting edge educational content.
Those interested in watching without receiving CE/CME/ACPE, the programs are FREE. Attendees requesting CE/CME/ACPE, must complete an evaluation/post-test and pay a nominal fee.

Session Description:
Dr. Graff-Radford offers the presentation to bring awareness to the history of the first patient diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and the importance in using analytical skills along with epidemiology statistics in attempting to make a direct correlation to Alzheimer’s disease with other conditions. He discusses several risk factors generally related to the disease. Dr. Graff-Radford provides current recommendations for possible prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. He explains the different clinical disease stages from preclinical to MCI to dementia and the different tests associated with stages. Current treatments along with indications and contraindications of different medications are discussed during the presentation.

On completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- List the risk and protective factors for Alzheimer's disease.
- Describe the genetic risk for Alzheimer's disease.

Neill Graff-Radford, MD
Dr. Neill R. Graff-Radford graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, and obtained his U.K. board certification in internal medicine (MRCP) in 1977 and moved to the United States in 1978. After completing a neurology residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Dr. Graff-Radford completed a fellowship in behavioral neurology with at the University of Iowa. Currently Dr. Graff-Radford holds the academic rank of Professor of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.
Dr. Graff-Radford is the principal investigator on Mayo Clinic in Florida's component of the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. He has extensive external research funding and has authored or co-authored more than 185 peer-reviewed journal articles, more than 195 abstracts and more than 40 book chapters.
