Session Description:
This program should help providers and others in the medical field to understand "Meaningful Use" and how it will affect Georgia's medical practices. The Federal Government has recently invested billions of dollars to help with the adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and build a nationwide Health Information Exchange. Providers are encouraged to adopt EHR and begin exchanging clinical information to improve the quality of care for patient and population health. Medicaid and Medicare will pay providers to adopt EHR by year 2015. Some providers have already received payments. It is important that Georgia's providers understand the program, so that they begin qualifying for these payments before it is too late.
Session Objectives:
- The HITECH Act and federal initiatives to build the Health Information Technology (HIT) infrastructure
- The definition of "Meaningful Use" and what it means for Georgia's providers
- The "Meaningful Use" incentive programs with Medicaid and Medicare that will pay providers for adopting EHR
- The importance of EHR adoption in medical practices in GA
- How the Regional Extension Centers can help providers to adopt
