Session Description:
Today, infection control is well established in healthcare organizations that have internal infection control programs. The challenge then is not developing an infection control program but the more difficult task in reviewing and upgrading programs. Ms. Flook will provide participants with updated guidelines to ensure competent infection control practices in regards to safety for patients, payment for performance standards and quality improvement tools currently available.

Objectives:

  • Describe the implications for enhanced infection prevention in the healthcare setting in today's environment of antibiotic resistance and payment for performance.
  • Delineate cutural changes and quality improvement (QI) tools that have proven to improve infection prevention at the staff level and leads to zero infections.
  • Discuss at least 3 essential elements of infection prevention programs and how nurses must lead the efforts to obtain zero infections and eliminate preventable harm. Outline the responsibility and accountability cascade for infection prevention.
