Sponsor: Three Rivers AHEC

Presenter:
Mirrin Reagan, RN, WHNP, CNS

Session Description:
A cancer diagnosis may lead to a change in a person's priorities regarding relationships, career, or lifestyle. Some survivors become anxious about their health and uncertain of how to cope with life after treatment. Cancer survivorship begins at diagnosis. It includes people who continue to have treatment to either reduce risk of recurrence or to manage chronic disease.

Some survivors have difficulty adjusting to and learning to live with uncertainty. Others may have physical problems, sexual and fertility concerns, experience discrimination at work, or find that their social network feels inadequate. Find out more about coping with such concerns, and how to make positive lifestyle changes after a cancer diagnosis. Survivorship is a unique journey for each person.

Session Objectives:

  1. Identify and discuss gonadotoxic agents used in treatment of various types of cancer.
  2. Identify appropriate populations for fertility presentation treatments.
  3. Discuss treatment options for fertility preservation in both male and female patients.
  4. Explain how to best match treatment strategies to appropriate patients.
