Session Description:
Dr. Tammie Quest shares details regarding palliative care and current palliative care models. She describes the role of primary care providers in palliative care best practices. During the presentation she defines four illness trajectories common to the end of life.
Dr. Quest provides information regarding the two levels of palliative care, the practical elements of palliative care, primary care guidance in advance directives, differences in hospice care and palliative care, and barriers to discussing end of life care. She offers various research data regarding hospice utilization, hospice median length of stay, location of death of patients and their survival time, demographics, and reimbursement of services of hospice care. The research she provides also details the use of hospice care in patients receiving services from oncology, dialysis, nursing homes, and veterans.

About Tammie E. Quest, MD
Dr. Tammie Quest is an Associate Professor of Medicine for the Emory University School of Medicine within the Emergency Medicine Department and the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology. She is the Director of the Palliative Care Center with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Dr. Quest graduated from the University of California, School of Medicine in San Francisco California. She completed her Emergency Medicine Residency at the Alameda County Medical Center and Highland General Hospital in California.
She is board certified in Emergency Medicine and in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine.
