Mike Sweeney, CFO Announces Retirement in August 2021
Healthcare Georgia Foundation announces the retirement of Mike Sweeney, CFO effective August 31, 2021. During his 20 years of service, Mike provided the Foundation with exemplary financial stewardship across our investment portfolio, financial operations and budgeting, technology and information systems, and grantmaking. As we have all witnessed, Mike enjoys deep respect among his peers, colleagues, and the Foundation’s broad network of consultants, contractors, and advisors. The Foundation’s widely recognized contributions and success can be traced back to his gentle and thoughtful style of interacting with others when solving seemingly intractable problems. He is responsible for the development of many of our operational systems, enabling the Foundation to achieve not only a high level of capacity but also impact. Always modest when recognized, he is quick to attribute results to others. Few match the work ethic that Mike has consistently demonstrated over these many years. Mike’s leadership is evident at so many levels; Mike has helped create a culture of excellence and unselfish giving that reminds us of our charitable roots and why we do what we do. We are certain that he is leaving the Foundation well prepared for the future.
Mike Sweeney joined Healthcare Georgia Foundation in May 2002. Prior to joining Healthcare Georgia Foundation, Mike was with Bank of America for over 30 years. He most recently held the position of senior vice president, where his responsibilities included managing the financial and administrative functions for the company’s Corporate Affairs division. In addition, he managed the financial and administrative functions of the organization’s foundation and related programs such as Matching Gifts. Mike has served on the Board of Directors of several organizations, most recently including TechBridge, the Southeastern Council of Foundations, and has represented the Foundation with TAG (Technology Affinity Group) and with the Council on Foundations. Mike attended Georgia State University and has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
