Health Impact Investing
The goal of health impact investing is to generate a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact along side a financial return. This area represents an exciting new financing strategy for Georgia’s health nonprofits, combining traditional charitable resources with existing public and private capital to improve health outcomes. At Healthcare Georgia Foundation, we believe impact investing is an untapped opportunity to expand and align resources with the causes of poor health, including the social determinants of health.

Social Determinants of Health (identified at right) are “the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age.” Increasingly, it is recognized that a broad range of social, economic, and environmental factors shape health behaviors and access to healthcare. Impact investing brings financial resources beyond charitable grants and federal funding to Georgia’s most pressing health issues. The Social Determinants of Health are especially well-positioned as targets for health investments.
Our Strategy
Beginning in 2019, Healthcare Georgia Foundation will focus on Program Related Investments made to certified Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and build the capacity of CDFIs to partner with health investments designated to nonprofits in Georgia.
What are CDFIs?
Community Development Financial Institutions are specialized community based financial institutions with a primary mission to promote economic development by providing financial products and services in underserved communities. CDFIs include banks, credit unions, nonprofit loan funds and venture capital funds. Click here for a list of National and Georgia-based CDFIs.
What are PRIs?
Program Related Investments are financial instruments aligned with Foundation mission and can take a variety of forms such as equity, debt, guarantees, or deposits.
