Fourth Quarter 2018 Foundation grants reflect new partnerships and expanding investment
in behavioral health services for Georgians

Atlanta, GA – January 7, 2019 – Healthcare Georgia Foundation has announced its fourth quarter 2018 grant awards totaling $815,500 with the Foundation’s financial support reaching nonprofit organizations across Georgia providing sustainable healthcare services to underserved populations. The Foundation’s most recent investments include protecting Georgia’s safety net, prescription assistance, the health of rural residents, and culturally competent behavioral health services.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to support new partners in our work to reduce health disparities and increase health equity for Georgians in need,” said Gary D. Nelson, PhD, Foundation President. “Our recent support includes expanding investments for behavioral health services to help ensure residents across our state have access to more comprehensive healthcare services.”

Recipients of the Foundation’s most recent grant awards include:

• Albany Area Community Service Board – $50,000
  Support on behalf of their Aspire Behavioral Health Developmental Disabilities program to expand services into Clay County, by establishing a behavioral health clinic serving youth and their families in Fort Gaines. GA.

• American Cancer Society – $50,000
  Support to implement a community health initiative in collaboration with a federally qualified health center, to reduce disparities in HPV vaccinations for underserved children in the Macon public health district.

• Atlanta Harm Reduction Coalition, Inc. – $50,000
  Support to expand HIV services to African-American women living in Atlanta.

• CHRIS 180 – $50,000
  Support to expand the Westside Connect community health worker program to reduce barriers to healthcare and social services for underserved residents in Atlanta’s Westside communities.

• International Rescue Committee – $50,000
  Support to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate domestic violence and sexual assault case management services to refugee and immigrant women in DeKalb County.

• MercyMed of Columbus – $50,000
  Support to provide healthcare and conduct data collection among patients in the Emergency Department and Hospital Re-Admission Reduction Program.

• Whitefoord, Inc – $50,000
  Support to integrate a community health worker into its patient-centered medical home model to provide outreach, health education and chronic disease management to targeted members of the community.

• Ser Familia – $50,000
  Support to implement linguistically and culturally competent mental healthcare services for Latinos in metropolitan Atlanta to decrease disparities, and to improve access to quality care.

• Supporting Initiatives to Redistribute Unused Medicine (SIRUM) – $50,000
  Support to expand their prescription assistance program to rural communities in Georgia.

• American Heart Association – $50,000
  Support to provide culturally appropriate nutrition education and cooking classes targeting Hispanic patients in Atlanta.

• Aligned Solutions, LLC– $25,500
  Support for the provision of financial consulting services including underwriting and asset management activities related to Healthcare Georgia Foundation’s Strategic Impact Investing Program.

• Mathews and Maxwell, Inc. – $15,000
  Support for Legislative tracking and political analysis aligned with Healthcare Georgia Foundation’s Two Georgias Initiative.

• Georgia Public Health Association – $15,000
  Support for the Gold Plus A Plenary Speaker at their 90th Annual Conference on May 7-9, 2019 at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta, GA.

• JLH Consulting, LLC – $60,500
  Support to provide meeting planning for: two CDFI community meetings; 2) two Town Hall Meetings to support the rollout of the Foundation’s strategic plan and; 3) The Two Georgias Initiative annual grantee and management team meeting.

• Meetings Planned Here – $200,000
  Support to plan, execute and evaluate Connections 2020 and the Joseph D. Greene Community Service Award Ceremony.
