Healthcare Georgia Foundation Announces Fourth Quarter 2021 Grant Recipients

The Grants Provide Funding to a Variety of the Foundation’s Impact Areas

Atlanta, GA – December 17, 2021 – Healthcare Georgia Foundation has announced eleven new grant awards totaling $1,157,222 in support of the Foundation’s funding impact areas, including: Addressing Health Disparities, Expanding Access to Quality, Affordable and Integrated Health Services, and Strengthening and Sustaining Health Nonprofit Organizations, Programs and Workforce.

Five of these grants commence the launch of the Foundation’s Maternal and Child Health Initiative, a multi-year, multi-pronged equitable grantmaking strategy to address maternal and infant morbidity/mortality among Black women and infants in Georgia and to provide support to women and their families throughout the perinatal/interconception periods to improve health and mental health outcomes for both women and children. The initiative intentionally targets Black women of reproductive age, regardless of socioeconomic status, and their children, partners, and families and will incorporate policy and programmatic solutions to address systemic barriers that lead to poor maternal and infant health outcomes. These inaugural grantees of the new initiative include: 4Kira4Moms, Inc., Center for Black Women’s Wellness, Inc., Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia, Morehouse School of Medicine’s Center for Maternal Health Equity, and Black Mamas Matter Alliance.

Foundation President Dr. Gary Nelson commented on the fourth quarter grant recipients, “As we enter our 20th year of grantmaking, the Foundation is thrilled to welcome this group of new grantees and to champion the efforts of organizations we’ve partnered with previously.” Nelson continued, “Each of these groups share our vision for health equity for all Georgians, and we look forward to the great work they will carry out in their communities.”
