Preventing Infant Mortality in Georgia
In 2013, Healthcare Georgia Foundation invested $2.5 million to develop the Taking Care of You Initiative (TCOY) to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based approaches to reducing adverse birth outcomes in selected Georgia public health departments serving high disparity communities. The goal was to build their capacity to implement and identify strategies to reduce adverse infant health outcomes, including preterm birth, low birth weight, and sleep-related deaths.
The grantees – Clayton County Board of Health, Lowndes County Board of Health, and Southwest Public Health District’s Dougherty County Board of Health and Ellenton Farmworker Health Clinic in Colquitt County – were selected based on a competitive funding announcement and lessons learned from previous Foundation grantmaking in infant health, the February 2019 edition of Results Matter highlights findings from the Taking Care of You Initiative.
