Healthcare Georgia Foundation Releases 2020 Grant Funding Summary
The Foundation Provides Funding for COVID-19 Crisis Relief, Rural Health Initiatives, Capacity Building, and More
Atlanta, GA – January 11, 2021 – As the immediate effects of the COVID-19 pandemic began to appear in March 2020, Healthcare Georgia Foundation embarked on a thorough and inclusive crisis relief effort to provide the state’s healthcare safety net providers and organizations addressing basic human needs with general unrestricted operating support.
Two rounds of COVID-19 crisis relief funding were awarded; the first round, with twenty-two organizations receiving a total of $315,000, was directed to Georgia’s Healthcare Safety Net. This included six Federally Qualified Health Centers, two Public Health Districts, seven Community Service Boards, and seven Free/Charitable Clinics. The second round, with fifteen organizations receiving a total of $320,000, was directed to organizations addressing basic human needs. This group consisted of nonprofits working in food access, housing, childcare, and including entities who acted in a fiscal intermediary role redistributing the Foundation’s funding to nonprofits statewide. By supporting this wide-ranging collection of organizations, the Foundation sought to address the wide variety of needs facing Georgia’s residents in the wake of this devastating pandemic. In December 2020, the Foundation awarded three additional COVID-19 support grants at $87,000 total.
Exceeding its annual giving requirements, the Foundation also continued to fund its previous commitments and initiatives addressing rural health, capacity building, and strategic health impact investing. Technical assistance continuation grants were awarded to organizations supporting The Two Georgias Initiative collaboratives, the EmpowerHealth capacity building program welcomed its third cohort of organizations, and the Notification of Funding Availability was released for the Foundation’s second round of strategic health impact investments.
